Comrie Soundlab

Conversion R & D for community group, Cultybraggan Camp, Perthshire



Comrie Soundlab is a community group based in Comrie, Perthshire. Ewan Cameron Architects has been providing designs on a pro-bono basis.

The group are trying to raise funds for the refurbishment and fit out of a nissen hut at Cultybraggan Camp. Hut 64 will be developed for the purpose of making music, teaching, experimental sound, recording and learning.

The building is 180m² and will incorporate a practice room, a teaching room, a drum room, a studio, reception / instrument repair shop, kitchenette and wc’s. The plan is to repair then insulate the roof of the hut with spray foam, fit it out with acoustic panels, build up the floor with insulated panels, provide power and drainage.The partitions will be formed with oriented strand board (OSB) which will also act as a finish.

The ultimate goal is that Comrie Soundlab will be a high quality, exemplar community recording and practice space for everyone in the local area to use.
